Icook

ICook is a software for restaurants and other food companies to manage their income. It has a super-detailed, customizable and easy-to-understand dashboard that helps you manage your business on a daily basis. This software also has a mobile version, so that the user can have all the information they need at any time. This project was certainly challenging, but it has a super rewarding process for everyone who participated.

The Briefing

I started participating in the project after it was already in an advanced stage of ideation. The customer already had a prototype of the mobile application, but needed a desktop version too, which was richer in features and easier, without losing its simplicity during its use.

The process

The team had a team of designers who were relocated to different areas. I acted as the designer responsible for the platform desk, whose main duty was to translate the mobile application into this new format. The first step I took was to create a Style Guide for the project, based on what already existed before. With the guide ready, I studied some competitors and how they made their own dashboards, and after a long usability analysis, I noted what innovation I could bring to improve the user experience. One of the points I most noticed within the competition's dashboards is exaggeration of information thrown on the screen, which can often scare new users who have never had experience with this type of program. So, I placed only six panels with the main information and allowed the user to better organize these panels within the "settings" tab. Using fewer panels on the dashboard, I was able to make the information more visual and pleasant to see.

Challenges

Certainly the biggest challenge of this project was to analyze what I could best bring to the dashboard layout from competitors, as they all seemed very well consolidated. I consider the idea of simplifying the number of panels a little risky, but in order to improve some already consolidated layout, you have to take a risk.
